Worn since time immemorial, earrings were first made of seeds, rocks, carved bones, wood, and then in metals. Initially, men made more ornate earrings as a symbol of status and political power within their own communities.
Earring evolved into a stylish and still ornate piece of adornment through the years. Of note is when clothing was worn high, up around the neck, earrings weren’t worn frequently. The minute in history,when the caps and covers around the hair and neck lines dropped, earrings took over and took off.
